Working with Derived Outputs

You can create, view, and update derived outputs in Product Structure Editor.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: To generate derived outputs, install the Derived Format Converter app.

For more information, see Social and Collaborative | 3D Product Validation | Derived Format Converter.

Generate Derived Outputs

You can create derived outputs of your objects.

  1. Select one or several objects.

Note: The derived outputs are created for the selected objects and all their children.

  2. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Generate Derived Output .
The Generate Derived Output panel appears.
  3. Select one or several formats.

  4. Click Generate.

Note: The Generate Derived Output command creates derived output jobs that will be processed either by the Derived Format Converter app, or a Cloud Service ENOVIA Conversion Administration, based on the formats requested.

View and Update Derived Outputs

You can see the derived output status of a selected format for the content in the tree view.

  1. To display the Derived Output Status column, from the Tools section of the action bar, click Tree List View Options , and select Derived Output Status.

The value of the Derived Output Status column is computed when you load objects for the first time, and is depending on the indexing mechanism of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Important: The status of the derived output is only displayed for product structure data (3DEXPERIENCE or X-CAD), and node other than assembly-like objects.

The following table indicates the different statuses for the derived outputs:
    Icon Description
A new action is available: you can compute the derived output.
(orange) Status computation is in progress.
(green) The derived output is synchronized.
(orange) The derived output does not exist, or is not synchronized.

    There is no job.

(blue) The derived output does not exist, or is not synchronized.

    The job is running.

(red) The derived output does not exist, or is not synchronized.

    The job has failed.

(blue) The derived output does not exist, or is not synchronized.

    The job is submitted.

  2. To track a specific derived output format, right-click the Derived Output Status column header, and select a format.

The list corresponds to the formats that can be generated by the converter.

    Note:
    • The ACIS® format is excluded from the list.

The derived output status is recomputed for the specific derived format.
  3. To update the status of the derived output after modifying data (for example if you modify the geometry), refresh the widget or reload the page.

Note: The leaf nodes are computed on scroll. To avoid performance issues, the intermediate nodes are computed on demand.

  4. To compute intermediate nodes, click the icon.

Note: The leaf nodes are automatically computed.

  5. To display the derived outputs in the side pane, from the View section of the action bar, click Display Side Panel , and select the Derived Outputs tab.
