Moving Objects with Drag and Drop

You can move objects in a structure using drag-and-drop to reorder the tree, change the parent of an instance, and insert an existing object.

This task shows you how to:

Reorder Objects

You can move objects within a structure to reorder the tree. You can also move an object to another parent, within a structure or another one, to change its parent.

  1. In the Preferences, select Move for the Drag and drop behavior preference.
  2. Select an object.
  3. To reorder the tree:
    1. Drag the object between the lines where you want to insert it.
      A bullet shows where the object can be inserted and a confirmation panel appears.
    2. Click Reorder.
  4. To change the parent of the object:
    1. Drag the object to the parent where you want to insert it.
      The parent where the object can be inserted is highlighted and a confirmation panel appears.
    2. Click Move.

Insert an Existing Object under another Parent

You can drag an object that is already in the structure to insert a copy this object under another parent.

  1. In the Preferences, select Copy for the Drag and drop behavior preference.
  2. Select an object.
  3. Drag the selected object where you want to insert it.
  4. Click Copy.
