About Assisting Tools for Reconstruction

During the reconstruction process, tools guiding you in the process of reconstruction are available.

This page discusses:

Reconstruction Assistant

If a reconstruction has partially or totally failed, the reconstruction assistant lists every error.

During the reconstruction of a 3D model, the Reconstruction Assistant panel is available to guide you in the process of reconstruction or in case of errors.

During the reconstruction process, the Reconstruction Assistant panel displays information on what needs to be done to achieve the reconstruction of the model. You can hide this panel by clicking Display Assistant from the Reconstruction section of the action bar.

The reconstruction process failure is divided in two parts:

  • No reconstruction has started: In this case, no 3D reconstruction has been performed yet. The aim of the assistant is to achieve a first 3D reconstruction.
  • Only a partial reconstruction was done: Some images were not used to perform the reconstruction. In this case, the user wants to know which images are not reconstructed and why.

Image Status

Beside every image loaded in the Image Gallery, a color indicating the image status is displayed if the Display Diagnostic command is active.

Each color provides reconstruction information:

Color Description

The image is used in the reconstruction.

The defined focal differs from the inner focal computed by the system. A tooltip appears on the focal length information to indicate if the value is too low or too high.

The image has points which have been matched but are not taken into account for the reconstruction. The reconstruction assistant provides more information.

No matching has been done. The image cannot be taken into account for the reconstruction.

Diagnostic Information

When an update error are linked to a wrong input, erroneous elements appear on the image. The default color is red. It can be changed in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Digitized Shape > Photo to Shape > General.

Regularize Tangents for Adjacent Curves

Two adjacent curves with angles lower than 15 degrees can be set as tangent. The aim is to construct a network of curves that facilitates surfaces reconstruction by ensuring the continuity of tangents for adjacent tangents when it is relevant.

To trigger this regularization on the current reconstruction, right-click the feature, select Properties > Photo to Shape tab and select the Curves regularization option.

To set the regularization as default behavior at creation, select the Curves Regularization option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Digitized Shape > Photo to Shape > Reconstruction.

Important: Retroprojection measure and correctness of 3D curves can be impacted. 3D curves can be modified during the regularization process and not be the optimal 3D curves that projects the best on all its corresponding 2D curves on the images.
