Defining Tangent and Perpendicular Constraints

In a 2D geometry, you can define tangent and perpendicular constraints. If the object is already reconstructed, the constraints can be defined on the 3D model. The constraint is taken into account to ensure the tangency or perpendicularity of the selected objects.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Draw the 2D shape of your image.
  • Define the correspondences between your images.
  • Define the symmetries.

Define Perpendicular Constraint

  1. From the Reconstruction section of the action bar, click Perpendicular Constraint .
  2. Select the two adjacent curves for which you want to define as perpendicular.
  3. Click Display Constraints to hide or display the constraint.

    Note: You can change color of the constraint using the Constraint color option from the Display Constraint section in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Digitized Shape > Photo to Shape > General. For more information, see Native Apps Preferences Guide: General.

    The curves, displayed in white, are updated according to the constraint.

Define Tangent Constraint

  1. From the Reconstruction section, click Tangent Constraint .
  2. Select the two adjacent curves for which you want to define a common tangent.


  3. Optional: To edit a constraint in 2D:
    • Click the tangent.
    • drag the manipulators to modify the tangent direction and tension.


    The curves, displayed in white, are updated according to the constraint.
  4. Click Display Constraints to hide or display the constraint.
