Analyzing the Mesh

You can analyze the shape of the mesh for a better understanding.

For a graphical assistance, use Mesh Shape Analysis as described below. Undo is available at any stage and reverts to the previous state of the mesh.

As an alternative, generate a Contrast Map.

  1. Select the Define In Work Object where the result is stored.
  2. From the Wireframe section of the action bar, or from the context toolbar of Curves network Preparation, click Mesh Shape Analysis .
  3. Select a mono-cell mesh or an existing Mesh Shape Analysis. Click Compute .

Tip: Shading with Material provides light effects.

  4. Start with a coarse level for a quick computation with few areas, then try with finer levels.
  5. Continue with finer levels.
  6. For a split, click an area.
The area is split in two.
    • The split is not recursive.
    • If the picked area contains subareas, they are split too. In some cases, it is a good alternative to refinement.
  7. For a merge, pick an area and drag it on another.
All the areas under the mouse path are merged into the picked one.
  8. For a local split depending on the click location, shift-click an area.
  9. After at least one computation, press .

Note: You cannot split or merge areas in brush mode.

    1. Adjust the size of the brush with the slider.
    2. Drag the brush from an area with a start color, to an area with another color.
The triangles under the brush take the color of the start color. This is an easy way to:
      • Extend an area.
      • Smooth a border between two areas, by changing the color of unruly triangles.
      • Cut an area by a narrow zone separating two larger domains to be managed separately.

A MeshShapeAnalysisMap datum is stored under the tree.
