Adding a Segment Connection Point to a Board Assembly

You can add a segment connection point to a board assembly to create an electrical connection between the segment connection point and a flat cable.

Flat cable properties can be defined while creating or editing the segment connection point on circuit boards. These properties are the profile information of the flat cable which is routed from this segment connection point and the axis system.

Before you begin: Open a board assembly and UI activate it in Circuit Board Design.
  1. From the Rigid Flex section of the action bar, click Segment Connection Point .
  2. Select the board on which you want to add a segment connection point.
The Segment Connection Point Definition dialog box appears.
  3. In the Name box, specify a name.
  4. To place the segment connection point, do one of the following:
    • Select an existing axis system.
    • Define a new axis system by clicking Create Axis System .

For more information about defining axis systems, see Generative Shape Design User's Guide: Using Tools: Defining an Axis System.

Important: The axis system must be right-handed.

The axis system giving the position of the segment connection point is created and its name is displayed in the Axis System box.
  5. Under Segment Section Parameters, edit the Width and the Thickness of the segment connection point.
  6. Click OK to validate.
A segment connection point is created. In the tree, it appears under the Electrical node, at the same level as the board.
  7. Double-click an existing segment connection point to display the Segment Connection Point Definition dialog box and edit its parameters.

Note: You can delete segment connection points. However, the publications of the geometries which constrain their placement are not automatically deleted, because they may have been created earlier, in another app. Delete publications manually using the Delete command from the context menu.
