Creating Supports

You can create a support by assigning the support type to an existing part. Supports are typically brackets and clamps used to hold trays.

Before you begin: Open an object containing a part.

  1. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, click Support .
The Support Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Select the part you want to turn into a support.
The part ID appears in the dialog box.
  3. Create one or more ports.

Note: You need to define two points, because support ports are of the 'hole' type and extend from one end of the part to the other end.

    1. Click the Point button.
The Point Definition dialog box appears.
    2. Select a point definition method.

For more information, see Generative Shape Design User's Guide: Creating Wireframe Geometry. In this procedure, the Circle/Sphere... method is used.

  4. Select the circle to create a point.

Important: Make sure that Plane under First Plane Definition is selected in the Support Definition dialog box and select a plane to define the alignment of the port.

The selected plane must be on the same plane as the point.
  5. Define a plane for the Second Plane Definition.

This defines the other end of the port. The second plane must be parallel to the first plane.

  6. Click OK to create the port.
  7. To create another port, start the procedure from step 1.
Note: The second plane definition cannot be modified.

Note: You do not need a Base Plane Definition for raceway parts.
