Selecting a Reference

Place Part lets you select a reference or a component group in different ways to place it in your design.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Your administrator must have:
  • Associated the catalog to a resource set and the resource set must be associated to a collaborative space.
  • Created a component group.

Select a Reference by Defining a Subtype

You can select a reference by defining its subtype.

  1. On the context toolbar, click Raceway > Part Selection > Define part sub type or select a new part .
  2. Select a subtype in the list or an already placed part.
  3. Select a placement method.
  4. Click the location where you want to place your part.
  5. Select a part in the catalog.

Select a Reference from a Catalog

You can select a reference in the catalog.

  1. In the context toolbar, click Raceway > Part Selection > Find part using catalog .

    The Catalog Browser dialog box appears.

    Note: The catalogs available are those imported by your administrator using the Data Setup app. They contain parts or equipment.
  2. Click a chapter.
    The parts available in the chapter are displayed in the Item name column.
  3. Select a part.
  4. Place the part using one of the placement methods.

Select a Reference Using Chooser

You can select a reference by searching the database.

  1. On the context toolbar, click Raceway > Part Selection > Find part using chooser .
    The Object Selection dialog box appears.
  2. In the From Search tab, enter a search string and click Search.
  3. Select the reference of your choice and click OK.
  4. Place the part using one of the placement methods.

Select a Reference from the Library

You can select a reference by searching the library.

  1. On the context toolbar, click Raceway > Part Selection > Library Part Selection .
  2. In the Library Editor, select the component from the respective class.
  3. Place the part using one of the placement methods.
