*FASTENER FAILURE

Define spot weld failure properties.

This option is used to define spot weld failure models. This option must be used in conjunction with the FASTENER PROPERTY option.

This page discusses:

Required parameters

TYPE

Set TYPE=DURATION to define spot weld failure with the duration-to-failure model.

Set TYPE=DAMAGE to define spot weld failure with the damaged-failure model.

Required, mutually exclusive parameters

AVERAGING INTERVAL

Set this parameter equal to the number of increments over which the spot weld forces are to be averaged if an averaging interval is to be used in filtering spot weld forces.

CUT OFF FREQUENCY

Set this parameter equal to the cut-off frequency if a cut-off frequency is to be used in filtering spot weld forces.

Optional parameters

DEPENDENCIES

Set this parameter equal to the number of field variable dependencies included in the definition of the failure forces and displacements. If this parameter is omitted, it is assumed that the failure forces and displacements are constant or depend only on temperature. See Material Data Definition for more information.

Data lines to define spot welds with the duration-to-failure model

First line
  1. Force resultant F1 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  2. Force resultant F2 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  3. Force resultant F3 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  4. Moment resultant T1 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  5. Moment resultant T2 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  6. Moment resultant T3 at failure. If zero, failure due to this component is not considered.

  7. Time to failure, Tf.

  8. Temperature, θ.

Subsequent lines (only needed if the DEPENDENCIES parameter has a value greater than zero)
  1. First field variable.

  2. Etc., up to eight field variables per line.

Repeat this set of data lines as often as necessary to define the spot weld failure as a function of temperature and other predefined field variables.

  4. Breakage rotation ϕ3 (default value is ϕ1).

  5. Temperature, θ.

  6. First field variable.

  7. Second field variable.

  8. Third field variable.

Subsequent lines (only needed if the DEPENDENCIES parameter has a value greater than three)
