Creating Cutouts on Members

You can create cutouts:

  • On structural elements such as members, plates, gussets, and end caps
  • On intersecting faces of structural elements and solid or surface bodies
  • Using sketch profiles

This task shows you how to:

Create Sketch-Based Cutouts

The following procedure explains how to create cutouts from sketch profiles.

Before you begin: Open a physical product containing members.
  1. In the work area, click a member and from the context toolbar, select Create or Edit Sketch .
  2. Create a sketch having closed contours.

    You can create multiple closed sketch contours in a single sketch or create multiple sketches with individual profiles.

  3. Click Exit Sketch .
  4. From the Structure section of the action bar, click Cutout .
  5. In the Cutout dialog box, click Closed Sketch.
  6. Click in the Profile field, and from the Design Manager Tree or work area, select sketch profiles to create cutouts from.
  7. In the dialog box, click the Structural Entities field, and from the Design Manager Tree or work area, select structural objects such as members, plates, gussets, or end caps.
  8. Click .
    The Design Manager Tree displays a separate cutout entry for each sketch profile used in creating cutouts.
  9. Optional: To edit an existing cutout feature, from the Design Tree, right-click the cutout and from the context toolbar, click Edit Feature .

    While editing, you can include or exclude profiles for the cutout creation.

Create Body-Based Cutouts

The following procedure explains how to create cutouts at the intersection of structural elements and bodies.

Before you begin: Open a physical product containing members intersecting with solid or surface bodies.
  1. From the Structure section of the action bar, click Cutout .
  2. In the Cutout dialog box, click Single Body.
  3. Click in the Profile field, and from the Design Manager Tree or work area, select a body.
  4. Click the Structural Entities field, and from the Design Manager Tree or work area, select structural objects such as members, plates, gussets, or end caps.
  5. Click .
  6. Optional: To edit an existing cutout feature, from the Design Tree, right-click the cutout and from the context toolbar, click Edit Feature .

    While editing, you can include or exclude profiles for the cutout creation.
