Replace Component

You can update your assembly product by replacing a component with another, revising the component to another version, or replacing the configuration of that component.

This task shows you how to:

Context:

In the top menu of the dialog box, you can switch between Component , Revision , and Configuration replacements.

Component. Replaces an existing component with a different component.
Revision. Replaces the current version of the component with a different revision.
Configuration. Replaces the current SOLIDWORKS configuration of the component with a new SOLIDWORKS configuration of that component.

This is only available for components that have been created with SOLIDWORKS. The Configuration list is blank (and not clickable) unless it came from SOLIDWORKS.

Replacing the Component

You can replace one component with another within an assembly product.

  1. From the Assembly section of the action bar, click Replace Component .
  2. From the top menu of the Replace Component dialog box, select Component .
  3. In the Replace Component dialog box, click Replaced components and select a component from the work area that you want to replace.
  4. Click Choose component.
    3DSearch page appears.
  5. In the 3DSearch box, enter a name in the search box for the replacement component.
  6. Click OK to insert a component in place of component that you want to replace.
  7. You can perform following optional steps:
    1. To replace all instances of the selected component, not only the selected instance, select Replace all instances.
    2. To replace the existing mates associated with the replacement component, select Solve mates.
      The Replace Mate References dialog box appears. To replace mates:
      1. Click Mate references and select references such as face, edge, plane, or axis that you want to replace.
      2. Select a reference in the Mate references field to replace it with new reference.
      3. Click Associated mates and select a mate you want to associate with the selected reference.
      4. Click Replacement reference and select a new reference that you want to associate with selected mate.
  8. Click .

Replacing the Version

In an assembly product, you can replace the current version of the component with a new revision of that component.

  1. From the Assembly section of the action bar, click Replace Component .
  2. From the top menu of the Replace Component dialog box, select Revision .
  3. In the Replace Component dialog box, click Replaced components and select a component from the work area that you want to replace.
  4. Click Choose revision.
    Revision Explorer page appears.
  5. In the Revision Explorer page, select a revision of the component.

    The page is blank if there are no other revisions for the selected component.

  6. Click OK to insert the revision of the component.
  7. To replace all the instances of the selected revision, select Replace all instances.
  8. Click .

Replacing the Configuration

In an assembly product, you can replace the current configuration of the component with a new configuration.

Context: Replacement configuration is only available for components that have been created SOLIDWORKS. The Configuration list is blank (and not clickable) unless it came from SOLIDWORKS.

  1. From the Assembly section of the action bar, click Replace Component .
  2. From the top menu of the Replace Component dialog box, select Configuration .
  3. In the Replace Component dialog box, click Replaced components and select a component from the work area that you want to replace.
  4. Click the Replacement configuration menu and selected a replacement configuration.
  5. To replace all the instances of a selected configuration, select Replace all instances.
  6. Click .
