Applying and Replacing Materials

You can apply a core or a covering material to a product from the list of materials in your Material Browser.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Your Administrator must populate your collaborative space with the material data.

Context: Material is applied as a core material or as a covering. Click to expand the heading list to display the available materials in each category. The Material Browser panel can also be docked on the sides of the work area.

Type a key word in the Filter field to search for a material. Click the expander to filter the materials by Name, Classification, Type, or person who is Responsible for the material.

Apply a Material

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Material Browser .
  2. Click to expand the heading list to display the available materials in each category.
  3. Select the material and drag it to a feature or product in the work area.
    A context toolbar displays.
  4. Click Apply Material .
    The selected material is applied to the feature or product and listed in the Design Manager.
  5. Click to close the Material Browser panel when finished.

Replace a Material

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Material Browser .
  2. Click to expand the heading list to display the available materials in each category.
  3. Select the replacement material and drag it to a feature or product in the work area.
    The selected material replaces the material previously applied to the feature or product and listed in the Design Manager.
  4. Click Apply Material .
    The selected material replaces the previous material, and listed in the Design Manager.
  5. Click to close the Material Browser panel when finished.

Remove a Material

  1. From the Design Manager, select the material to remove.
    The context toolbar menu appears.
  2. From the context toolbar menu, select Remove Material .

View Material Properties

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Material Browser .
  2. Click to expand the heading list to display the available materials in each category.
  3. Click the material to review the properties.
    The material properties of the selected material display in the Material Browser panel.
    Property Value
    Classification Displays the top lever classification of the material.
    Creation Date Displays the date and time the material was added to the database.
    Name Displays the code name of the material.
    Title Displays the name of the material.
    Last Modified By Displays the user's ID who last edited the material.
    Modification Date Displays the date and time the material was last edited.
    Organization Displays who owns the material.
    Collaborative Policy Displays the resource information of the material.
    Collaborative Space Displays the name of the collaborative space where the material data is stored.
    Maturity State Displays the cycle stage of the material such as "In Work" or final.
    Responsible Displays the name of the person responsible for the material.
    Type Identifies if this is a core or covering material.
  4. Click the Back to return to the list.
  5. Click to close the Material Browser panel when finished.
