Creating Functions

Creating Data Points Functions

You can use a data point function to compute the function according to the input and output values specified in a data table.

This task shows you how to:

Create a Data Points Function

  1. Select Data Points as the function type to create.
  2. In the Physical Quantities section of the dialog box, select a type of quantity for each function value.
    1. In the Independent, x field, select a type of quantity for the input value.
    2. In the Dependent, F(x) field, select a type of quantity for the output value.
  3. In the Definition section, specify x and F(x) values in each row of the table. Use the following options to fill in the table.
    OptionDescription

    Append Row
Adds a new row at the end of the table, with default values, and increments the x value.

Use this option to create the first row of the table.

    Insert Row
Adds a new row after the selected row, and specifies default values.

The x value must be higher than the previous value and lower than the next value.

    Delete Row
Deletes the selected row or rows.

    Move Up Row
Moves the selected row or rows up the table.

    Move Down Row
Moves the selected row or rows down the table.
  4. In the Scale and Offset section of the dialog box, specify a value for the scale and offset of the x and F(x) variables.

By default, the scale values correspond to 1 and the offset values to 0. The offset values adapt to the respective x and F(x) scale values.

  5. Click .

Edit a Function
