Grouping and Ungrouping Components

You can use the Form Subassembly command from the Design Manager tree to group components and form subassemblies. When subassemblies are created, you can move and work with that group of components as one object in your physical product.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Open a physical product with multiple components in the Design Manager tree.

Form Subassembly

Forms a subassembly in the Design Manager tree that includes the selected components. The selected components must be in the same tree level.

  1. In the tree, select two or more components.

    You can choose multiple components by Shift-clicking or Ctrl-clicking the components.



  2. Right-click one of the selected components in the tree.
    The context toolbar displays.

  3. From the context toolbar, click Form Subassembly .
    The selected components become an assembly (new physical product) composed of the selected components.

Dissolve

You can dissolve the components, or features or both from the selected subassembly in the Design Manager tree. The components or features under the dissolved subassembly are added to the root level in the tree. The root component cannot be dissolved.

  1. In the tree, select the subassembly.



  2. Right-click the selected subassembly in the tree.
  3. From the context toolbar, click Dissolve .

    Choose one of the following, from the Dissolve dialog box:

    • Features and Components - Moves the features and the sub-assembly to the parent component.
      Note: The axis system of the parent component is shifted as the geometry of the dissolved component is transferred to the parent.
    • Features - Moves only the features to the parent component.
    • Components - Moves the subassembly to the parent component.

    Note: You cannot dissolve an active component.

  4. Click .

    Note: This command is available with the Breadcrumbs.

    The components or features from the dissolved subassemblies are added to the root level in the tree.
