Exporting Geometry

You can export the components in the active work area by using the Export feature in the app. The export data is useful for viewing and working on the model in other apps.


Before you begin: Collaborative space owners have the ability to restrict the Import and Export use in collaborative spaces.

  1. From the standard area of the action bar, select Export .

    Note: Save the changes before exporting.

  2. In the Export dialog box, select the Destination.

    Note: Select 3DDrive to obtain a link to the exported file and send it in a message or email.

    OptionDescription
    File on disk You can export the file to a storage device on your local system.
    3DDrive You can export the file to a 3DEXPERIENCE location that you have access to on the cloud such as a 3DDrive. Within the 3DDrive, you have the option to export the file your folder or to a shared folder. Click the folder to select a 3DDrive and path.

    When you have 3DDrive selected, the Get link to file in 3DDrive option is displayed. Select Get link to file in 3DDrive to copy the 3DDrive link. You can paste this link in a file or email. If the recipient has access to the folder, they can use the link to access that exported file.

    Note: The link appears after you click Export and this dialog box closes.

    In the Copy Link dialog box, click Copy link. The link is added to your system's clipboard. Click to close the link. Use Paste to add the link in the file or email.

  3. In the File Name field, edit the name of the file that you want to export.
    The default file name is similar to the file name displayed in the Design Manager.
  4. Select the file format and options.

    Exports the model data in 3DXML (*.3dxml) format.

    Allow editing
    Exports the 3DXML file without restrictions and editable by other users.
    For review (read-only)
    Exports the 3DXML as a read-only file and cannot be edited.
  5. Click Export.
