Customizing the Tree View

You can customize the Tree view by adding attributes or changing the display of the widget.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin:
  • Select Tree View to display the items in a table.
  • To sort the content of the tree on a chosen attribute, click the corresponding column header.
  • To filter a column, click Filter Values in the column header.
    Note: You cannot filter the following columns:
    • Type, and Instance Type
    • Maturity
    • Lock, and Instance Lock
    • Creation Date
    • Modification Date, and Instance Modification Date

    When you remove a root from the view, the column filtering is removed.

    When you perform an authoring operation (for example, when you add an object or a value), you must remove and reapply the column filtering.

Customize the Display of the Tree View

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Tree List View Options .

    Tip: You can also right-click the header row and select Tree List View Options.

  2. To display specific columns that allow you to perform actions, select the corresponding check boxes:

    For more information about the actions available in specific columns, see Specific Columns in Tree View.

  3. In the Is Visible column, do one of the following:

    • Click to hide the column in the tree view.
    • Click to show the column in the tree view.
    Note: You cannot hide the Title column.

  4. To display the thumbnails of the object, select View thumbnails in the Tree View .
  5. To change the order of the columns, click:

    Move Up
    Moves the selected attribute up one row.


    Move Down
    Moves the selected attribute down one row.


    Move to Top
    Moves all selected attributes to the top of the table.


    Move to Bottom
    Moves all selected attributes to the bottom of the table.
    The order of the attributes displayed in the Tree List View Options panel corresponds to the order of the columns in the Tree view.
  6. To pin a column to one side of the table, in the Pinned column, select one of the following options:
    OptionDescription
    No Pin The column remains in its current display order in the grid.
    Left The column is displayed at the left of the grid. The first column pinned is always to the far left. All subsequent pinned columns are displayed to the right of the previously left-pinned columns. If the Color column is visible, by default it is always pinned to the left of the grid, before any other column.
    Right The column is displayed at the right of the grid. The first column pinned it always to the far right. All subsequent pinned columns are displayed to the left of the previously right-pinned columns.
  7. To indicate that the attribute can be exported with the Print or Export commands, select Is Exportable on the corresponding row.
  8. To remove attributes from the Tree View, do one of the following:
    • Click the icon from the Remove column for the attribute you want to remove.
    • Select the attributes you want to remove, and, from the panel toolbar, click the Remove icon.
  9. To specify the item display density, from the Density list, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Compact Each item is displayed in a compact format to optimize the number of rows that can be displayed in the grid.
    Comfortable Each item is displayed in a comfortable format to optimize the readability of the rows displayed in the grid.
  10. Optional: To reset the display of the items in the tree view to the default values, click Reset.
  11. To save your choices:
    1. Optional: To apply the options to this occurrence of this app only, select the Apply options only to this app option.
    2. Click Close.

Add Attributes to the Tree View

You can add attributes to the Tree view and remove them as you want.

  1. To display more attributes in the Tree view, select them in the attribute list.
    The attributes corresponding to the selected type are available.

    By default, the attributes corresponding to the following default types are available:

    • Physical Product
    • Physical Product Instance
    • Physical Representation
    • 3D Shape

    Notes:
    • The Title column displays the title of the reference and is always displayed. You can also select the Title column to display the instance.
    • If the same attribute name is used for two different attributes, the name appears twice in the attributes list. For example, if Scale is defined for both 3D shape and physical representation, then it appears twice in the attributes list.
  2. To add new attributes corresponding to other types, subtypes, or extensions, click More attributes .
    1. In the Select Types tab, select the types or subtypes, and click Next.

      To filter the list depending on the category, click:

      Option Description
      Instance/Reference Filter
      • No Filter : displays all types
      • Keep Reference : displays the reference types only.
      • Keep Instance : displays instance types only.
      Filter Rows
      • No Filter : displays all types
      • Keep Selected : displays the selected types only.
      • Keep not Selected : displays the nonselected types only.
      To refresh the list of available types, click Reload Available Types .
      Note: These commands are also available to filter the content of the Select Extensions and Select Attributes tabs.

    2. In the Select Extensions tab, select the extensions, and click Next.

      By default, only the X-CAD extension is selected.

      To see in which type the extension is declared, hover over the extension name.

    3. In the Select Attributes tab, select the attributes you want to display, and click Done.
  3. To save your choices:
    1. Optional: To apply the options to this widget only, select the Apply options only to this app option.

      When the option is cleared, the changes are applied to the Product Structure Explore widgets that are open in your session.

    2. Click Close.
    If content was already loaded in the widget, refresh the widget to display the value of the attributes you added.

Tip: To reset the attribute presentation definitions to default, click Reset.
