Importing Data from an External Simulation Representation

A Simulation Analyst can use Process Composer to import data from an External Simulation Representation to the VPM database.

Before you begin:

A standard installation of Process Composer includes an ExternalSimulationImport connector that uses a V6 batch file to import data from an External Simulation Representation to the 3DSpace database. Alternatively, a Simulation Methods Developer must have created a suitable connector with an application type of Importer and promoted the new connector to the Released state to make it available to the Simulation Analyst.

  1. Create a simulation activity.
  2. From the Content page of the simulation activity, toggle on the category that will contain the non-V6 data and select Actions > Create Document > With Versioned/Nonversioned files.
  3. Toggle off the category and toggle on the new document.
  4. Select Actions > Create Rules > Importer Upload Rule by Reference.
  5. Search for and select an importer (a connector with an application type of Importer, such as the ExternalSimulationImport connector).
  6. Click OK to create the upload rule.
  7. When you run the simulation activity, Process Composer imports the non-VPM object from the External Simulation Representation to the specified document.
