Creating Spools Automatically

You can create spool automatically in preliminary design mode or in manufacturing mode.

Before you begin: In Me > Preferences> App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Fluid Systems > > General > Spool Preferences or >Fluid Systems > > General > Spool Preferences, select Create Spool with single element automatically to enable the creation of spool with only one part inside.

Creating Spools Automatically
  1. Select the objects with the same parent for which you want to create a spool.
    • Select a product in the tree: the whole structure of the product is analyzed.
    • Select all the objects you want to include in the new spools.
  2. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, select one of the following:
    • Create Spools Automatically : the spool is created in preliminary design mode
    • Create Spools in Manufacturing Mode : the spool is created in manufacturing mode

    The Automatic Spool Creation dialog box appears.

  3. Optional: Select a spool or a spool row to highlight the spool or the spool members in the work area.
  4. Optional: Double-click a spool row to edit the name of the spool.
  5. Optional: Click Cancel to close the dialog box without creating the spools.
  6. Click OK.

    Spools are automatically created in preliminary design mode or in manufacturing mode under the parent product containing the objects in this spool.

    A message appears if the following types of parts are found:

    • single parts with no spool created.
    • non-realistic part with Forbidden-Input, Forbidden-Border, or Border-Border behaviors.

  7. From the Selection Options dialog box, click Spool and then click an object in the 3D area to visualize the spool creation.
    Notes:
    • You can also use a batch to create spools automatically.
    • You can modify your network that already contains spools by adding or deleting elements and launch the Create Spools Automatically command again if the network contains either only spools in preliminary mode or only spools in manufacturing mode, or the Create Spool in Manufacturing Mode command if the network contains only spool in manufacturing mode. The update spool process launches the same algorithm used for the creation, and compares the result with the existing data to update the network:
      • Spools without modifications are kept.
      • Spools with modifications like new or removed elements are updated.
      • New spools can be created if the new elements do not belong to an existing spool.
      • Spools are deleted if they become empty.
