Simulating and Generating Results

You can simulate a model with or without updating links and generate results.

Note: If you simulate without updating links:
  • Broken or unsynchronized links are allowed when simulating the model.
  • Knowledge relations inside the model are not updated. Whenever possible, simulate after an update.
Therefore, whenever possible, simulate after an update.

You can simulate the following:

  • Functional models
  • Logical models
  • Logical-physical models
  • Stand-alone Dymola behavior models

Before you begin: Create a behavior experience .
Important:
  • To simulate, a valid compiler must be installed.
  • To simulate logical-physical models (models containing both physical products and logical components), you must have the Mechanical Systems Experience app.
  1. Select a scenario.
  2. Optional: If needed, set up the parameters for your simulation.

Note: To simulate models containing Modelica code, select Store complete Modelica results in the General tab of the Execution Setup dialog box.

  3. Click this command.
  4. Perform one of the following:
    • To simulate with updating links: click Simulate and Generate Results .

The simulation occurs only if the update is successful.

    • To simulate without updating links: click Compute Scenario Without Update .
The Simulate and Generate Results dialog box appears.
  5. Optional: You can click Preview to display and monitor the simulation without storing the results.
  6. Optional: By default, the current scenario is selected for simulation. If you want to simulate all the scenarios, click Select All Scenarios in the dialog box.

This also deactivates the Preview button.

  7. Click OK.

    When the simulation is complete:

    • If an error or warning is detected during the computation, the Incident Diagnosis dialog box appears to let you understand, analyze, and solve the problem. The diagnosis appears in the tree under Results of Scenario. You can click Incident Diagnosis or double-click the diagnosis in the tree to open the Incident Diagnosis dialog box.
    • If you simulate and generate results for the first time, the Result category appears in the tree, and a Result of Scenario node is created for each simulated scenario.
    • A Modelica Complete Result node is by default displayed under the Result of Scenario node for each scenario. The node contains the complete result for all Modelica behaviors in the scenario.

You can now analyze the simulation results or animate the model.
