Creating Traces

You can create traces that collectively plot the position of the selected element at each step in the simulation.

Before you begin:
  • A scenario result of an object with both logical and physical model must be available under the Result node of scenario simulation.
Important: The result must include 3D trajectories. To obtain that, activate Record 3D trajectories in the General tab of Execution Setup before generating scenario result. For more information, see Simulation Setup Dialog Box.
  • Set the scenario result you want to trace as current. To set the scenario result as the current one, right-click it, and select Set as Current.

Simulating and Generating Results
  1. From the Scenario section of the action bar, click Geometric Trace .
The Geometric Trace dialog box appears.
  2. In the tree, select the scenario result you want to trace.
  3. Select the elements (points, vertex, curves, or edges) in the model you want to trace.

These elements can be selected from any geometry (sketch, wireframe, solid and surface).

  4. Optional: Select the Reference product.
Note: The motion of the trace will be relative to the motion of the reference product.
  5. Click OK.
The trace opens in a new tab. In the logical simulation tab, Geometric Trace appears in the tree under the current scenario result.
  6. To display an existing trace in a new tab, right-click the trace representation in the tree and select Display Representation.
  7. To update a trace, right-click the trace in the tree, and do either of the following:
    • Select Update to update not only the scenario and its results, but also the products and assemblies.
Note: The process may be time consuming, especially for large models.
    • Select Local Update to only update the scenario and the selected post-processing (traces).

Note: Alternatively, use the Computation and Generate Results commands (local or global update) to update the traces.

The trace opens in a new tab. In the logical simulation tab, Geometric Trace is updated.
