Creating Beams

Beam lets you create beams to provide support to structural objects.

Before you begin: Create a geometrical set for beam.
  1. In the Beam dialog box, select the category.
  2. In the Material & Orientation tab:
    1. Select appropriate material and section for the beam.
    2. Set the orientation of the beam.

If you are unable to find the selected section reference, check the following:

    • The section reference is available in the database.
    • There are no duplicate section references in the database.
    • The section reference has the section standard attribute specified in its properties.

  3. In the Geometry tab, select the desired beam creation type from the Type list, and then specify the prerequisites as follows:

    Beam Type Essentials
    Point and length Point

    Length

Direction: Select line, plane, or reference plane.

    Point and limit Point

Limit: Select reference plane, structural object (panel), or surface.

Direction: Select line, reference plane, or planar surface.

    Point to point Two points
    Curve Curve

    Surface or plane

    Beams and plane Plane

    Two beams

Reference Planes Start and bottom limits

Location (transversal and longitudinal references): Select reference planes. If you select structural objects, for example a panel, as transversal or longitudinal location reference, the support of the panel is set as the location reference.

  4. Optional: Under the Limits area, specify the start and end limits.
Depending on the beam type selection, you can select reference planes, panels, points, surfaces, or another profile as limits.
