Creating Advanced Copy

You can copy or move one or more elements (panels, stiffeners, beams, openings, parametric panels, standalone plates ) along the reference planes.

This task shows you how to:

Translate Elements

You can move one or more elements along the reference plane.

  1. From the Operation section of the action bar, click Advanced Copy .
    The Advanced Copy/Move dialog box appears.
  2. In the Target box, select a repository or a product.
  3. In the Mode list, select Translation.
  4. In the Source box, select a reference plane from which translation will be computed.

    The source reference plane can be independent of the selected element.

  5. In the Destination box, select another reference plane up to which the translation will be computed.

    Important: The elements are translated with respect to the difference between source plane and destination plane.

  6. Optional: In the Offset box, type the required value.

    The offset value is applied to the destination planes.

  7. Select one or more elements to be translated.


  8. Optional: Select the Remove Useless Object check box to delete the objects automatically which are in update error after translation.

    By default, this check box is cleared.

  9. Optional: Select the Duplicate check box if you want to copy the structure object while translating them.

    By default, this check box is selected.

  10. Optional: Select the Automatic Copy and Reroute of GSD Objects check box to copy and automatically reroute all the structure objects that have wireframe objects as input.

    By default, this check box is selected. If this check box is cleared, you need to manually reroute the wireframe objects.

    Recommendation: It is recommended to use a regular plane system so as to properly copy and reroute the structure objects that have wireframe objects as input.

  11. Click Apply to preview the translated element.
  12. Click OK.
    The elements are translated and can be identified in the tree.

Create a Symmetrical Copy

You can copy one or more elements creating mirror symmetry with respect to the reference plane.

  1. From the Operation section of the action bar, click Advanced Copy .
    The Advanced Copy/Move dialog box appears.
  2. In the Target box, select a repository or a product.
  3. In the Mode list, select Symmetry.
  4. In the Plane box, select the reference plane along which the mirror symmetry element be created.
  5. Select one or more elements to be copied.
  6. Optional: Perform step 8 to 10 as defined in the above task.
  7. Click Apply to preview the copied element.
  8. Click OK.
    The elements are copied and can be identified in the tree.

Note: The advanced copy operation preserves the properties (thickness, material, and color) of each split plate of a seamed panel, in both translation and symmetry modes. It is recommended to use a regular plane system to retain these properties on the resultant split plates.

Perform Reroute Analysis

You can perform the reroute analysis to change the inputs of the selected structural elements to be moved or copied.

  1. From the Operation section of the action bar, click Advanced Copy .
    The Advanced Copy/Move dialog box appears.
  2. Perform step 2 to 5 as defined in the above task.
  3. To reroute the inputs of an element, right-click a row and select Reroute Analysis.
    The Reroute Analysis dialog box appears. It displays the support and limits of the selected element and the reroute status of each of these inputs.
  4. Modify the input elements.
    MethodDescription
    Instant Reroute You can directly replace the current input elements under the Current column. The objects are instantly moved according to the selected inputs.
    Delayed RerouteYou can specify the new inputs under the Proposed column. The current inputs are replaced with the proposed ones at the end of the advanced copy operation.
  5. Select the corresponding Global Reroute check box to reroute the input element globally. In other words, this option reroutes the input element used in all objects that are selected for advanced copy.
    If you want to reroute the input element for the selected object only, clear the Global Reroute check box.
  6. Click OK in the Reroute Analysis dialog box.
    The inputs are rerouted.
