Creating a Symmetrical Copy

You can copy one or more structural objects creating mirror symmetry with respect to a reference plane.

  1. From the Operation section of the action bar, click Rule-based Copy .
  2. At the upper right of the Rule-based Copy dialog box, click Show Preferences and specify a rerouting rule. For more information, see Main Rerouting Rule.

If the rerouting rule is added in the rules catalog or rules library in Data Setup, it is preselected.

  3. Select Symmetry.
  4. In the Symmetry plane box, select a plane with respect to which the symmetry will be created.

Recommendation: Select the symmetry plane from the active structure system.
    Notes:
    • You can select a plane or a structural object (panel or stiffener). In case of a structural object, its support plane is taken into account.
    • In case of a plane that is not a part of the active structure system:
      • If it is a reference plane, it is replaced with a reference plane of the same name from the project data.
      • If it is a plane, it is imported in the active structure system.

  5. In the objects area, select the structural objects from the 3D area or the tree.

You can select panels, parametric panels, stiffeners, stiffeners on free edges, and beams (of all types except the Beams and Plane type).

Tip: You can also select a geometrical set or a structure system. All the structural objects under them are taken into account.

  6. Select the check boxes of the required structural objects and click Copy .
    • The objects are copied. The new objects are created under the active structure system.
    • The progress bar displays the progress of the copy operation. You can press Esc anytime to cancel the operation.
    • A copy specification object is generated and added to the tree, to store the information of the reference planes and the relationship between original and new objects.
  7. To verify the status of the inputs between the new and original objects, click Detail Specification and select a row,

In the Detail Specification dialog box, for the new objects, you can:

    • Replace the inputs either by selecting new elements from the tree or the 3D area, or by creating new wireframe or surface elements using the context menu.
    • Flip the orientation of the inputs.
    Click Update .

  8. On the progress bar, click Open the HTML Report to view the detailed report on the operation.
  9. Close the dialog box.
  10. Optional: To update the new objects for any changes in the original objects, perform the following steps:
    1. Click Rule-based Copy .
    2. In the objects area, select the related copy specification object from the tree.
The following information is retrieved and filled in the dialog box:
      • Source and destination planes in case of translation
      • Symmetry plane in case of symmetry
      • New and original structural objects
    3. Select the check boxes of the required structural objects and click Copy .
