Modifying a 3D Session Grid

You can flip, shrink, or stretch faces of a local 3D session grid. You can also show or hide the labels on grids.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Insert a project data in 3D representation and create a 3D session grid to it.

Creating a Local 3D Session Grid

Important: The manipulation of a session grid does not affect the 3D grid feature, and the session manipulation data are saved in a RFGSettings.CATPreferences file.
  • Since each user has his or her own RFGSettings.CATPreferences file, several users can manipulate the 3D grid in session and have different visualizations.
  • If the RFGSettings.CATPreferences file is deleted, the session manipulation data are lost, the 3D grid is displayed in its original state.

Flip the Face of a 3D Session Grid

You can flip the face of a grid. The grid is redrawn and the opposite face is activated. For instance, face Y becomes face -Y.

  1. From the Grid section of the action bar, click 3D Session Grid - Manipulate .
  2. Select a face of the grid.
    A context toolbar appears on the face of the grid.

  3. On the context toolbar, click Flip Grid Face .
    The selected face of the grid is flipped.

Hide or Show Labels in 3D Session Grid

You can hide or show annotations in a 3D session grid.

  1. Select a face of the grid to manipulate.
    A context toolbar appears.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Hide/Show Labels .
    The labels are shown.

    Note: If the view is parallel to X, Y, or Z axis, the system will show only labels which are parallel to view to remove the overlapped labels.

    For example, the system will only show Y face labels and hide labels of other faces if you change 3D grid to side view.

Reset Grid and Grid Face

You can drag a 3D session grid to shrink or stretch it. You can reset a 3D session grid or a particular face of 3D session grid.

  1. Select the required face of the grid.
    A ruler and a context toolbar appear on the face of the grid.
    Note: The ruler appears only if the Grid Snap check box is cleared in the Visu Assistant panel.
  2. Drag the grid face.

    Tip: You can click the ruler and enter the required offset in the callout.

    The grid is resized accordingly.

    Important: The maximum size of the session grid depends on the size of the reference plane system assigned in Common Geometry Reference in Data Setup.
  3. On the context toolbar, click Reset Grid .
    All faces of the grid are reset to their original sizes.
  4. To reset a particular face of a 3D session grid, click Reset Grid Face .
    The selected face is reset.

Resize 3D Grid to Selected Object

You can resize 3D session grid as per the selected PLM object.

Before you begin: Open a root product containing structural objects and reference plane system
  1. Select any face of the grid.
    A context toolbar appears on the face of the grid.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Resize 3D Grid to Selected Objects .
    A message prompts you to select a PLM object.
  3. Select the required PLM object in the work area.
    The grid is resized as per the selected object.

  4. Click in the work area to finish the task.

Shift 3D Grid

You can shift the complete 3D grid within the scope of the reference plane system for which the grid was created.

  1. Select any face of the grid.
  2. On the context toolbar, click Shift 3D Grid .
  3. Drag the grid face.

    Note: You can click the ruler and enter the required offset in the callout. The ruler appears only if the Grid Snap check box is cleared in the Grid Visu Assistant panel.

    The complete 3D grid is shifted.
