Troubleshooting Material Appearance

When using a web viewer, material appearances are visualized with the following differences compared to a native viewer.

Material Appearance Support in Web Viewer
Any material appearance Material appearances created before - R2021x FD04 (FP.2050) are not compatible with the web visualization.

To make them compatible, do one of the following:

  • Import As Reference the models containing materials, otherwise the textures are not displayed.
  • Modify and save a material appearance from - R2021x FD04 (FP.2050) onward. Otherwise, the material is not displayed.
  • Create and save a material appearance from - R2021x FD04 (FP.2050) onward. Otherwise the material is not displayed.
Textured appearance Textures might not be correctly displayed in some old Basic material types, and materials imported from 3xf files.

Displayed and nondisplayed formats are as follows.

  • Displayed: jpeg, jpg, png, hdr
  • Displayed only if power of 2: bmp, tga
  • Not displayed: tiff, dds, exr, gif, pic, psd, and rgb.

Low-quality appearance A few material types and operations might trigger lossy conversions and therefore, a degradation of the visual quality:
  • The +Complex Material type might produce a different shininess on web viewers.
  • AxF with CarPaint Version 2 (CPA2) might produce a different shininess and flakes on web viewers.
  • Exporting to 3DXML for review format converts the material appearances to a Basic material type. Therefore, only the Diffuse map is displayed whatever the visualization engine.
