Working Under an Evolution

You can work under an evolution as the authoring context for your working session. The selected evolution is used as your authoring context in all apps that support the ability to work under an evolution until you remove it.

Note: You must have the Configuration Engineer license to work under an evolution.

This task shows you how to:

Start Working Under an Evolution

You can start working under an evolution to specify the authoring context for your working session.

  1. Click .
  2. Click Evolution.
  3. To select the model evolution to work under, do the following:
    1. Click .
    2. From the 3DSearch results, select the model evolution to work under, then click OK.
    3. From the model's context menu, select Edit.
    4. Use the Infinite Select Mode toggle to configure the selection mode:

      Toggle Position Description
      Disabled Define the evolution effectivity using only the selected model version evolutions. You may select more than one.
      Enabled Define the evolution effectivity using all the model version evolutions from the one selected to infinity. You select only the earliest applicable model version evolution and all others to infinity are automatically selected for you.

    5. Using the Graph and the columns, select the single or range of model evolutions to define effectivity for the object.
    6. Click Apply.
  4. Click OK.
    The selected evolution is now listed in the Work Under dialog box.

Suspend Working Under an Evolution

You can temporarily suspend working under an evolution while you edit the evolution effectivity. It is not good practice to do so for any other reason.

Recommendation: Resume working under the evolution after you edit the evolution effectivity, but before you perform any other actions.

  1. Click .
  2. Click the toggle at the bottom of the Work Under dialog box so that it is .
  3. Click to close the Work Under dialog box
    With working under an evolution suspended, all operations are done without taking into account evolution effectivity.

Resume Working Under an Evolution

You can resume working under an evolution after you are finished editing the evolution effectivity.

  1. Click .
  2. Click the toggle at the bottom of the Work Under dialog box so that it is .
  3. Click to close the Work Under dialog box.

Stop Working Under an Evolution

You can stop working under an evolution by removing the model defined as the configuration context. You continue to work under the specified evolution as your authoring context until you specifically remove it.

  1. Click .
  2. In the Work Under dialog box, click Remove in the model's tile.
  3. Click to close the Work Under dialog box.
