About Torques

A torque is twisting or rotational load applied at a point.

Applying Torques

The point of application can be a vertex in the model or a node in the meshed model.

A torque definition consists of three components:

  • Direction (defined by the orientation of the local feature triad)
  • Transmission surface (the specified points on which the torque acts)
  • Magnitude

A torque might represent a region of your model that gets twisted during normal usage, or it might indicate a region that contacts another spinning component in your assembly.

The dimensions of torque are force times distance, with default units of newton-meters (N·m).
