Plastic strain magnitude, or equivalent plastic strain, is often a parameter to minimize in a design. However, some designs require plastic strain. For example, a press fit component relies on some plastic strain to secure the part in an assembly. By creating a response variable for the plastic strain magnitude, you can monitor changes in the strain as the optimization process modifies the design. You can also use plastic strain response variables as optimization objectives or constraints. Note:
Plastic strain response variables are visible in results monitoring only
when you use them as objectives or constraints.
