About Additive Manufacturing Machines

An additive manufacturing machine associates a machine document with a specific simulation.

Workflow

The additive manufacturing machine feature allows you to select a machine document to apply to the current simulation. This feature is the bridge between the strain values specified in the document and the specific geometry for which you are checking distortions.

In addition, the additive manufacturing machine feature allows you to switch between a pattern-based simulation and a trajectory-based simulation. A pattern-based simulation applies strains to the printed part based on regions described in the machine document. A trajectory-based simulation matches the laser path used in your current simulation to the strains provided in the machine document.

When you use a pattern-based approach, you can also specify a layer thickness for the build in the additive manufacturing machine.
