Correcting Finite Element Model Problems

You can review and correct mesh and geometry problems found when running the Automated FEM.

Before you begin: Run the Automated FEM. Any products that did not generate a green report (completed with good mesh) in the Report column are candidates for review and correction.

About Automated FEM Methods
  1. From the Errors section of the mesh report, right-click an error row and select Edit Failed FEMs.
A panel displays the list of any products that did not generate a good finite element model.
  2. Click an item in the list to see status details.
Mesh or geometry failures also display diagnostic information below the list.
  3. Double-click an item in the list to edit it.

The object is opened for editing based on the report type:

    Report typeAction
Meshed with bad elements Edit the mesh part (in the Fluid Model Creation or Structural Model Creation app)
Mesh failure Edit the mesh part (in the Fluid Model Creation or Structural Model Creation app)
Geometry failure Edit the 3D shape (in the Simulation Model Preparation app)
No report Edit the mesh part (in the Fluid Model Creation or Structural Model Creation app)

Note: "No report" is also shown when you first open the Automated FEM. In this case there are no reports; however, there are also no finite element models or meshes, so no action is available.
