Defining Human Groups

You can specify a human group to describe the clothing insulation level and metabolic rate for a category of human models.

  1. From the Boundaries section of the action bar, click Human Group .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Specify the Clothing insulation level, which is a measure of the thermal insulation provided by clothing.
  4. Specify the Mets, or metabolic rate, to define the level of heat generation per unit area on the surface of the human model's body.

    Some common values are 0.7 met for a sleeping human, 1.0 met for a seated human, and 2.0 met for a walking human. Metabolic values for a variety of human activities are available in the ASHRAE Standard 55-2010 handbook.
