Defining a Porous Zone

You can specify the behavior (viscous and inertial resistance, material orientation, porosity, and turbulence behavior) of a porous zone in your simulation and associate it with a porous section. You must assign a porous zone to every porous section in the model.

Editing Simulation Features
  1. From the Zones section of the action bar, click Porous Zone .
  2. Optional: Customize the Name of the porous zone.
  3. Select the porous section or sections for which you are specifying porous zone behavior.
  4. Specify the viscous resistance parameters k11, k22, and k33.
  5. Specify the inertial resistance parameters k11, k22, and k33.
  6. Optional: To customize the material orientation, expand the Material orientation options, select Specify orientation, and define the axis system, axis of rotation, and additional rotation for the material orientation you want to use.
  7. Optional: Specify the porosity of the material in the porous zone.

This option is available only when you specified an energy equation as part of the physics definition for this simulation. The default porosity is 0.5.

  8. Optional: Specify the turbulence behavior downstream from the porous zone.

This option is available only when turbulence is specified as part of the physics definition for this simulation. By default, turbulence effects downstream are not considered in the simulation.

  9. Click OK.
