About Restart Analyses for Fluid Simulations

If you have previously run a fluid flow simulation, and the analysis was interrupted before it was complete, you can restart the simulation where it was interrupted.

Important: To restart a simulation, you must have performed it interactively.

Running a Simulation from an App

Restart of the analysis occurs only if you have not made any subsequent changes to the simulation. If you have edited the simulation by appending new steps to it, the app runs the analysis from the beginning.

Using restart in your analysis enables you to perform a portion of your intended simulation, interrupt the process to review the results to that point, and then restart the simulation if you are satisfied with the results you examined. If you want your full analysis to last 10 seconds (or, for a steady state analysis, you want to specify a maximum number of iterations of 2000), you could run the simulation and stop it after 1 second (or 200 iterations), review the results of the analysis to that point, and restart the simulation.
