Defining Output Requests

You can use output requests to control the output from a simulation by specifying the types of desired results and the frequency with which they are recorded.

  1. From the Simulate section of the action bar, click Output .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select the geometry supports in the model.

Field output can be requested for one or more points, edges, or faces. History output can be requested for one or more points. You can also request output for specific simulation features.

To choose from support types other than geometry, select Publication, Group, Mesh Part, Connection, FEM feature, or Sim feature from the drop-down list. See Selection of Other Entities. If you do not select a support, output is recorded for the entire model.

  4. Select one of the following as the Frequency description:
    OptionDescription
Every n increments Specifies the output frequency in increments. If you select this frequency option, you must also specify n, the output frequency in increments. The output will always be saved at the last increment of each step.
Evenly spaced time intervals Specifies the output frequency by dividing the step into a given number of regular intervals. If you select this frequency option, you must also specify the Number of intervals during the step at which output is to be saved. You may also select Output at exact times to save results at the exact times dictated by the number of intervals parameter; otherwise, results are saved at the increment ending immediately after the time dictated by the number of intervals parameter.
Every x units of time Specifies the output frequency in constant step time intervals. If you select this frequency option, you must also specify x, the time interval at which output is to be saved. You may also select Output at exact times to save results at the exact times dictated by the x parameter; otherwise, results are saved at the increment ending immediately after the time dictated by the x parameter.
  5. Use the Output group to select the type of output: Field or History.
  6. Specify the result variables you want to record during the simulation in one the following ways:
    • Click Apply preselected defaults to select a set of commonly used variables.
    • Expand the output variables tree, and select individual variables in the tree.

To select all output variables, right-click anywhere in the variable tree and choose Select all variables. To deselect all variables, right-click and choose Clear selections.

  7. Click OK.
