Applying Ball Joints

You can use a ball joint to define a fixed center of rotation for a surface or edge; the center of rotation cannot move, but the surface is free to rotate about this center.

  1. From the Restraints section of the action bar, click Ball Joint .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select geometry supports in the model.

    You must apply a ball joint to one or more faces or edges.

  4. To change the center of rotation for the ball joint:

    You can move the center of rotation to a selected point, move it to an entered coordinate position, or use the Robot to reposition it. (If you use the Robot, select it again in the context toolbar to return to normal selection.

    • Right-click the triad glyph on the model, and select one of the positioning tools.
    • Set Reference point input mode to Support, and select a point on the model or a node-based group that contains a single node.
  5. Click OK.
