Creating Cutting Surfaces

You can remove portions of the model from the display while reviewing results so that you can focus on areas of interest.


Before you begin: A simulation must be complete, and a result image must be displayed.

Displaying Contour and Symbol Plots
  1. From the Results section of the action bar, click Plot Sectioning .

    Tip: You can also access Plot Sectioning from the postprocessing context toolbar while in the Results action. Click anywhere on the model to show the postprocessing context toolbar.

    By default, a cutting surface is created at the center of the model. The normal to the plane is oriented in the global Z-direction.

    Note: If a plot section cut was previously created and deactivated, that cut is reactivated instead of the default cut at the center of the model.

    The plot section context toolbar appears.
  2. Optional: Show or hide the robot from the plot sectioning context menu.
  3. Optional: If you are creating an iso-surface cut, you can adjust the iso-value using the slider or by entering a value directly.
  4. Optional: Determine which portion of the cut model is shown.

    Displays the model section through the cut plane and the sections in front of and behind the cut.
    Displays the model section in front of the cut plane.
    Displays the model section behind the cut plane.
    Displays the model section through the cut plane.
    Displays the model section in front of and through the cut plane.
    Displays the model section behind and through the cut plane.
    When included, the section in front of the cut is displayed as model edges only. The sections through the cut and behind the cut are displayed with edges and interior contours for the current results. You can change the section display properties using the controls in the Plot Sectioning dialog box.
  5. Optional: Switch the display of the cutting surface on or off .
  6. Optional: Click to edit all Plot Sectioning parameters.
    The Plot Sectioning dialog box displays options for the cut type, cut options, and rendering options.
  7. Click to assign a name to the cut surface.
  8. Close the plot section cut.
    OptionDescription
    Deactivates the plot section cut and closes the plot section context toolbar.
    Closes the plot section cut context toolbar, keeping the current cut active.
