Opening an Existing Simulation

You can open an existing simulation in a variety of ways. You can control whether all parts and meshes open from a Search Results window, from a Navigation window, or from a related search window. You cannot use the Open Advanced command to open a simulation or open a simulation process created by Process Composer.

For finite element-based simulations, the Open command opens and fully expands the simulated product. All parts and the FEM representations linked to them are opened regardless of whether they are used in the simulation. To increase performance, you may want to open only the parts and meshes relevant to the simulation, particularly with large assemblies. Smart Open opens only the relevant parts of the product structure. For example, if a simulation involves only three parts of a 1000 part assembly, Smart Open opens only these three parts. In addition, if a part is associated with several FEM representations, Smart Open opens only the mesh used by the current simulation.

For a video that explains how to search for objects and open them, see Search and Open Items in 3DEXPERIENCE.

This task shows you how to:

Open a Simulation from a Search Results Window

You can open an existing simulation from a Search Results window. The simulation opens in the app in which it was created.

  1. Select the simulation in a Search Results window. For more information, see About 3DSearch Queries.
  2. To open the selected simulation, right-click the simulation in the Search Results window, and select Open or Smart Open.
The simulation opens in the appropriate app. If you selected Smart Open, only the parts and meshes relevant to the simulation are opened.

Open a Simulation from a Navigation Window

You can open an existing simulation from a Navigation window. The simulation opens in the app in which it was created.

  1. Select the simulation in the tree.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the simulation in the 3D area, and select Open or Smart Open.
    • From the Simulation Finder section of the action bar, click Open .
    • Right-click the simulation in the tree, and select Smart Open.
The simulation is opened in the appropriate app. If you selected Smart Open, only the shapes and finite element model (FEM) representations relevant to the simulation are opened, along with their parent parts or products.

Open a Simulation from the Folder Editor App

You can open an existing simulation from the Folder Editor app. The simulation opens in the app in which it was created.

  1. Select the simulation from a subfolder in the tree.
  2. Do either of the following:
    • Right-click the simulation in the specification tree, and select Open.
    • From the Navigate section of the Folder Editor action bar, click Open .
The simulation opens in the appropriate app.

Open a Simulation from a Related Search Window

You can open an existing simulation from a related search window. The simulation opens in the app in which it was created.

  1. After performing a related search, select the simulation in the Impact Analysis window.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the simulation in the Impact Analysis window, and select Open.
    • From the Impact Analysis section of the action bar, click Open .
The simulation opens in the appropriate app.
