Brittle Shear Options

Brittle shear defines the postcracking shear behavior of a material used in a brittle cracking simulation. You must use material behavior with the brittle cracking behavior option. In addition, you can use the brittle cracking behavior option with the brittle failure behavior to specify the failure criterion for the brittle material.

Input Data Description
Type Mechanism for describing postcracking shear behavior.
  • Retention factor: Specifies the postcracking shear behavior by entering the shear retention factor-crack opening strain relationship directly.
  • Power Law: Specifies the postcracking shear behavior using the material parameters for the power law shear retention model.
Use temperature-dependent data Specifies material parameters that depend on temperature. A Temperature field appears in the data table. For more information, see Specifying Material Data as a Function of Temperature and Independent Field Variables.
Number of field variables Specify material parameters that depend on field variables. Field columns appear in the data table for each field variable you add. For more information, see Specifying Material Data as a Function of Temperature and Independent Field Variables.
Shear retention factor Shear retention factor, ρ .
Crack opening strain Crack opening strain, e n n c k .
e Power law material parameter e .
p Power law material parameter p .
