Specifying Material Data as a Function of Temperature and Independent Field Variables

You can often specify material data as a function of independent variables such as temperature. Material properties are made temperature dependent by specifying them at several different temperatures.

Note: Create a temperature initial condition to establish the starting temperature before solving any simulation with temperature-dependent features.

This task shows you how to:

Specify Material Data as a Function of Temperature

  1. In the Material Definition: Simulation Domain dialog box, select the material option for which you want to specify temperature-dependent data.
  2. Select Use temperature-dependent data.
A data table appears with columns for material data values and a Temperature column.
  3. Define material values and temperatures on each row of the data table for as many temperature values as you want to define.

Specify Material Data as a Function of Independent Field Variables

  1. In the Material Definition: Simulation Domain dialog box, select the material option for which you want to specify field variable-dependent data.
  2. Specify the Number of field variables.
A data table appears with a column for material data values and Field n columns for each field variable you want to specify.
  3. Define material values and independent field variable values on each row of the data table for as many field variable values as you want to define.
