Creating Restart Analysis Cases

You can create a restart analysis case to continue a complex simulation from a predetermined starting point in a baseline (upstream) simulation. You can restart static, frequency, or explicit dynamics analyses.

You can restart from a completed analysis case in the current simulation or from a completed analysis case in a different simulation object.

You can create multiple restart analysis cases as required to simulate different step types and conditions. Each restart analysis has its own results data.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: You must have an analysis case that has been run with the current release and functional delivery (FD) and contains restart data for at least one step.

Restart for Static Steps

You can restart a static analysis.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Restart Analysis Case .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Choose the Simulation containing the upstream analysis case from which to restart.

    The default simulation is the one in which you are working. To select a different simulation, click and find the simulation you want. The simulation that you select must use the same product structure (CAD model geometry) as the current simulation.

  4. Select the Analysis case, Step, and Increment from which to restart.
  5. Optional: Select End previous analysis at specified increment if desired.
  6. Click OK.
    Continue working in the new (downstream) analysis case, adding more steps, restraints, interactions, loads, and output requests as required.

Restart for Frequency Steps

You can restart a frequency analysis.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Restart Analysis Case .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Choose the Simulation containing the upstream analysis case from which to restart.

    The default simulation is the one in which you are working. To select a different simulation, click and find the simulation you want. The simulation that you select must use the same product structure (CAD model geometry) as the current simulation.

  4. Select the Analysis case and Step from which to restart.
  5. Click OK.
    Continue working in the new (downstream) analysis case, adding more steps, restraints, interactions, loads, and output requests as required.

Restart for Explicit Dynamics Steps

You can restart an explicit dynamics analysis.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Restart Analysis Case .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Choose the Simulation containing the upstream analysis case from which to restart.

    The default simulation is the one in which you are working. To select a different simulation, click and find the simulation you want. The simulation that you select must use the same product structure (CAD model geometry) as the current simulation.

  4. Select the Analysis case, Step, and Interval from which to restart.
  5. Click OK.
    Continue working in the new (downstream) analysis case, adding more steps, restraints, interactions, loads, and output requests as required.
