Applying Bolt Forces

You can apply a bolt force to tighten a physical or virtual bolt so that it carries a specified axial tension load.

Before you begin: To apply loads on virtual bolts, the bolt definition must include the Allow preload option.

  1. From the Loads section of the action bar, click Bolt Force .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select the supports in the model.

You can apply a bolt load to either a virtual bolt connection or a meshed bolt section.

  4. Enter a magnitude in the Load field.

If the support contains multiple bolts, this magnitude is applied to each of the bolts.

  5. Optional: Enter a Scale factor that is applied to the magnitude in each step.
  6. Optional: Select an Amplitude that defines the magnitude during the step.
  7. Optional: For harmonic response steps, specify the Phase angle for the amplitude curve. The phase angle determines the real (in-phase) and imaginary (out-of-phase) parts of the magnitude. A phase angle of 0ยบ indicates a value with no imaginary component.
  8. Click OK.
