Applying Displacement Base Motions

You can apply a displacement base motion load to specify the motion of nodes in a harmonic response step or a modal dynamic step.

You prescribe the displacements and rotations that are associated with a base during the harmonic response step or modal dynamic step.

Feature Manager
  1. From the Loads section of the action bar, click Displacement Base Motion .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select a Degree of freedom.
    The degree of freedom is the global direction (translation or rotation) for which the base motion is being defined.
  4. Specify a magnitude for the Displacement.
    This value acts as a multiplier for the values given by the amplitude curve.
  5. Optional: Enter a Scale factor.
    A scale factor is a multiplier used to scale the amplitude values.
  6. Optional: Specify an Amplitude and Phase angle.
    The amplitude curve defines the magnitude of the feature during the step. The phase angle for the amplitude curve determines the real (in-phase) and imaginary (out-of-phase) parts of the magnitude. A phase angle of 0ยบ indicates a value with no imaginary component.
    Note: Phase angles are available only for a harmonic response simulation step.
  7. Click OK.
