Reusing Abaqus/CAE Co-Simulations

You can export a structural simulation from an Abaqus/CAE simulation and use it in the Multiscale Experiment Creation app. Fluid (CFD) simulations cannot be reused from older versions of Abaqus/CAE, however.

Before you begin:

In the Abaqus/CAE simulation or co-simulation, you should have one or more of the following features:

  • Co-simulation region and type of interaction (FSI, CHT, etc.)
  • Sensors (history output requests)
  • Actuator amplitudes

You can only export Abaqus/CAE simulations that have analysis procedures (steps) that support co-simulation in Abaqus/CAE.

  1. To export your structural simulation to a .3dfmu archive file, select the job or co-execution job in the Abaqus/CAE model tree then right-click and choose Export > 3DFMU File from the context menu.

A separate .3dfmu file should be created for each Abaqus/CAE model in a co-simulation analysis. For example, in a Standard-to-Explicit co-simulation you must export different .3dfmu files: one for the Abaqus/Standard analysis and one for the Abaqus/Explicit analysis.

  2. After your .3dfmu file is saved to disk, drag and drop it from your Windows desktop into the experiment diagram in Multiscale Experiment Creation.

The structural simulation is instantiated as a component in the experiment.
