Ports Cannot Be Connected

Multiscale Experiment Creation prevents you from connecting two ports.

Condition

You see the following error message when trying to connect the component ports in Multiscale Experiment Creation:

The ports cannot be connected because they have different type references.

Cause

Ports created in workflows involving different security contexts might be incompatible because of problems with the data type information. This can happen, for example, when the abstraction ports are created in a mixture of private, protected, and public collaborative spaces.

Solution

To resolve this incompatibility, delete the component port and recreate it using the Edit Component command in Multiscale Experiment Creation.

Be careful if you recreate a component port that is used in other experiments, since the other experiments get the change immediately. This impacts the ports and links in those experiments, leading to possible link deletion and incompatible ports in the other experiments.
