Simulation Execution Locations

The location specifies where you run the simulation, and you can also specify how you want to monitor the simulation's progress.

Local

Local noninteractive simulations run in a background process on your computer. This method is useful for larger models or simulations that take a long time to complete.

While a local noninteractive simulation is running, it is locked; you cannot edit any part of it, including other analysis cases if they exist. However, you can continue working on other objects in your session, and you can close the app or your session while the simulation is running. The machine that submitted the simulation must remain powered on and connected to the network until the simulation is complete.

Cloud

You can run a simulation on a cloud server if your company has purchased cloud roles and licensing. When your session is connected to a 3DEXPERIENCE platform server on the cloud, you can monitor the execution while continuing to work on other simulation objects.

The specific cloud infrastructure and licensing scheme available for your simulations depends on your choice of app:

  • For structural simulation apps (Additive Manufacturing Scenario Creation, Linear Structural Scenario Creation, Linear Structural Validation, Mechanical Scenario Creation, Structural Scenario Creation, and Structural Validation), and for Fluid Scenario Creation app and Parametric Design Study, you can run simulations on a cloud infrastructure that provides support for distributed computing with a higher number of cores. This infrastructure can reduce the overall turnaround time for running simulations.

    When you run a simulation on this type of cloud server, the server automatically determines the appropriate resources required to run your simulation; therefore, you do not specify the number of CPU cores allocated for execution. The cloud infrastructure for structural simulation apps supports only credit or token licensing.

  • For all other simulation apps (Distortion Checker, Flow Driven Generative Design, Plastic Injection, Plastic Part Filling, and Static Study), and for durability simulations in the Mechanical Scenario Creation app, you can run simulations on a cloud infrastructure that can scale up to 32 cores. In this infrastructure, simulations always consume licensing credits to cover the cloud infrastructure cost, and you can specify the number of cores or the performance level for a simulation.
  • For Parametric Design Study and Design Exploration, you can submit up to four study designs simultaneously.

Remote

If your system administrator has configured the infrastructure for 3DOrchestrate in your on-premises 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you can run simulations remotely. You can also specify where a remote simulation will run and configure other 3DOrchestrate execution options.
