About Revisions

A revision is a copy of an object. When you make changes to your simulation, you can choose to create a new revision. The revised copy is independent of the original.

You can create a revision of the following:

  • Simulation processes
  • Simulation activities
  • Owned documents
  • Attribute groups

Creating a revision is a manual operation; Process Composer for Dashboard never creates a revision for you. The revision sequence (for example, 1, 2, 3 or A, B, C) is determined by the object's policy; however, you can enter any string or number in the Revision field. The symbol in the Remarks column of the table page indicates that a higher revision of the object exists.

You can view the revisions that have been made and recover earlier revisions. In addition, you can associate a description with a revision to understand why it was revised.

When you revise an object, Process Composer for Dashboard creates a copy of all of the children of the object. For example, if you revise a simulation process, Process Composer for Dashboard creates a copy of all the simulation activities. All of the owned documents in a revised simulation process are also copied; however, referenced documents continue to refer to their original document. When you revise a specific document, Process Composer for Dashboard allows you to revise only the document or the document and its contents.

When you revise a simulation process, simulation activity, experience, or document, Process Composer for Dashboard copies the access rights to the new revision.

You cannot revise a standalone object that you do not own if the object is still considered to be open; that is, if the object is in the Proposed or In Process state.
