Mapping Parameters Using the Dataflow Panel

You can use the Dataflow panel to map parameters and view existing parameter mappings.

By default, parameters are not mapped automatically between activities. You can automapping or change to the classic Dataflow view from the Simulation Process Modeling section of Me > Preferences on a native client.

This task shows you how to:

Map Parameters from One Activity to Another

You can review, create, delete, and modify available mappings between two activities.

  1. Open a simulation process.
  2. Select the source activity that contains the parameters that you want to map.
  3. From the Data Tools section of the action bar or the context menu, click Dataflow .
  4. Click the 1 to 1 tab.

Parameters in the source activity appear on the left side of the Dataflow panel.

  5. From the process diagram, select the destination activity that contains the parameters to which you will map.
  6. Select a source parameter. You can also click to create a new parameter in the source activity.

If you click to create a new parameter in the source activity and the source activity is in a subflow of the destination activity, Process Composer automatically creates a mapping from the parameter in the parent of the subflow to the parameter in the subflow activity.

Compatible destination parameters appear in the panel on the right. You can filter by parameter name using the box in the destination parameter column.
  7. Select a destination parameter.

If the modes of the selected parameters are not compatible for mapping in any direction, a dialog box prompts you to change the parameter modes to be compatible. Click OK to accept these changes. The mapping direction is decided based on the relationship between the activities. If a bidirectional mapping is possible, it will be created.

Icons in the Direction column describe the parameter mappings:

A parameter with the same name as the source parameter is present in the destination activity; a mapping will be created.
The proposed mapping is impossible between the selected parameters. For information, see Parameter Mapping Compatibility.
A parameter of the same name will be created in the destination activity and mapped to the source parameter.

  8. Optional: If the process contains subflows, you can change the direction of the mapping in the Direction column.
  9. To modify an existing mapping, select the row and click the destination parameter to search for a new destination parameter.
  10. Click Apply to save your changes, or click OK to save your changes and exit the Dataflow panel.

Note: You can also change tabs or select another source activity in the dataflow panel to save your changes.

Map Parameters from One Activity to Many Activities

You can review, create, delete, and modify available mappings between one activity and many others.

  1. Open a simulation process.
  2. Select the source activity that contains the parameters that you want to map.
  3. From the Data Tools section of the action bar or the context menu, click Dataflow .
  4. Click on the 1 to Many tab.
  5. From the top panel, select one or multiple source parameters. You can also click to create a new parameter in the source activity.

Parameters in the source activity appear in the top panel.

  6. At the top of the lower panel, select a mapping mode:
    OptionDescription
One to Many The selected source parameter is mapped directly to the selected destination activities. For example: A1>A2, A1>A3, A1>A4.
Sequential The selected source parameters are mapped through a series of selected destination activities. For example, A1>A2>A3>A4.

If there is an error in a sequential mapping, the rest of the sequence becomes invalid.

  7. Select one or more destination activities that contain the parameters to which you will map.
  8. Select destination parameters.

Icons on the destination parameter describe the mapping status:

A parameter with this name will be created in the destination activity and a mapping will be created.
The mapping already exists. No new mapping will be created.
A parameter with this name exists in the destination activity, but no mapping exists. A mapping will be created.
There is an error; no mapping will be created. If the destination activity is not valid for mapping, this symbol will appear by all destination parameters.
More mappings already exist. Click to view a list of mappings.

  9. Click Apply to save your changes, or click OK to save your changes and exit the Dataflow panel.

Note: You can also change tabs or select another source activity in the dataflow panel to save your changes.
