Connect the Parts

Use tie detection to create multiple tie connections between the part, the supports, and the build tray.

A tie connection allows you to fuse two regions together even if the meshes on the region surfaces are dissimilar. The tie constrains each of the nodes on the secondary surface to have the same motion as the point on the main surface to which it is closest.

  1. From the Standard section of the action bar, click Model .
The assembly opens in Structural Model Creation.
  2. From the Connections section of the action bar, click Tie Detection .
The Tie Detection dialog box appears.
  3. Enter a Search tolerance of 0.5mm.
  4. Select Find Ties.

Tie.3 appears in the list with the build tray as the main and the bridge part as the secondary.

  5. Click OK.
  6. From the tree, double-click Engineering Connections > Free.2 > Simulation properties.1 > Tie.3.
    The Tie dialog box opens.
  7. Rename the connection Tie_part-build_tray.

Meaningful names make it easier to find objects in a simulation.

  8. Click OK.
