Create a Static Step

Create a step to determine the nature and sequence of events in the simulation scenario.

All simulation steps are classified as either general analysis steps or linear perturbation steps. Within any general analysis step, you can use the step time in conjunction with amplitude definitions to control the application of a load.

When defining parameters for a simulation step, it is often required to run the simulation and readjust the time increments based on the results obtained. For this example, the time parameters have already been adjusted for you.

  1. From the standard area of the action bar, click Scenario .
The assembly opens in Structural Scenario Creation.
  2. From the Setup section of the Assistant, click Static Step .
  3. Expand the Incrementation section, and enter an initial time increment of 0.05s and a maximum time increment of 0.2s.

The app automatically adjusts the size of the increments so that it solves nonlinear problems efficiently; you only need to suggest the size of the first increment.

By default, the total step time is 1 second. With a total step time of 1 second, the proportion of load applied is always equal to the current step time; that is, 50% of the load is applied when the step time is 0.5.

  4. Click OK.
The step appears in an analysis case in the Scenario category of the tree.
