Specify Contact

Specify contact interactions in your model to define the behavior of the simulated response when the selected surfaces come into contact.

This task shows you how to:

Create a Contact Property

Use a contact property to describe the behavior between the clip and buckle during the simulation.

You can specify contact behavior models to govern the behavior of all interactions you identify (for example, a Coulomb friction model for the tangential interactions between surfaces).

  1. From the Interactions section of the Assistant, click Contact Property .
  2. Expand the Tangential behavior section, and select Specify tangential behavior options.
  3. Enter a friction coefficient of 0.1.

This value was selected to approximate the interaction between two plastic surfaces.

  4. Click OK.
The contact property appears as an interaction in the Scenario category of the tree.

Activate General Contact

Use a general contact feature to allow the Structural Scenario Creation app to identify contact interactions in the model automatically. This eliminates the need for you to identify interacting parts of surfaces.

  1. From the Interactions section of the Assistant, click General Contact .
  2. From the Global contact property options, select Contact Property.1.
  3. Click OK.
The contact feature appears as an interaction in the Scenario category of the tree.
